Dr Nora White
Principal Investigator
Nora White is a postdoctoral researcher in the Department of Early Irish at Maynooth University. Her research interests center on early medieval Irish epigraphy (ogham and insular Latin scripts) and the broader European context, epigraphic palaeography and early Irish language. She incorporates tools and methods from Digital Epigraphy and Digital Humanities generally in her research and is a member of the international EpiDoc community and Epidoc Action Group (EDAG). She was the Irish postdoc (2021-2024) of the IRC/AHRC-funded UK-Ireland Digital Humanities project OG(H)AM: Harnessing Digital Technologies to Transform Understanding of Ogham Writing, from the 4th Century to the 21st and co-Investigator on the follow-on project Ogham Palaeography+ (Opal+). She was also co-investigator with David Stifter on the EMILI pilot project, funded through a Nowlan Digitisation grant from the Royal Irish Academy in 2021.
Prof David Stifter

David Stifter is Professor of Old Irish and Head of the School of Celtic Studies at Maynooth University. His research interests lie in Old and Middle Irish language and philology and on the Continental Celtic languages (Celtiberian, Gaulish and Lepontic), in particular language variation and change in Old Irish, Early Irish literature, comparative Celtic linguistics, and the development and application of Digital Humanities resources for these languages. His handbook Sengoídelc. Old Irish for Beginners (Syracuse University Press 2006) is a popular introduction to Old Irish. His previous projects include the FWF-funded projects Milan Glosses (2006–2011) and Lexicon Leponticum (2009-2011), and the ERC Consolidator Grant project Chronologicon Hibernicum (2015–2021). He is currently also PI of the Taighde Éireann – Research Ireland-funded project OG(H)AM (2021–2025) and the Advanced Laureate project DiAgnostic (2023–2027).
Cassandra Pruetz
PhD Researcher
Cassandra Pruetz is a PhD researcher in the Department of Early Irish at Maynooth University. Her research interests include Old and Middle Irish, Celtic Studies more broadly, medieval art history, and palaeography (including the development of scripts). She was a research assistant (2023–2025) on the UCD-based FLEXI project, working on late medieval Irish law texts. Prior to this she was lecturer of ‘Celtic Languages’ and ‘Ancient Ireland’ at UCC in the Department of Early and Medieval Irish, where she had received her MA and completed her thesis ‘Suidiugad Tigi Midchuarta: Edition, Translation, and Notes’. Before coming to Ireland, she earned an Honors BA in Religious Studies from the University of Utah.
